Dodgers heat up in Denver
Los Angeles scored three in the top of the ninth inning off Colorado closer Wade Davis Sunday afternoon to win 10-7 and complete a three-game sweep to improve to 29-30, moving to within 2.5 games of now-first place Arizona. An RBI groundout by Justin Turner broke a 7-7 tie, while Yasmani Grandal added an insurance two-run home run. Chris Taylor was 2-for-4 with two runs in the win. Max Muncy was the star of the game as he was 2-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. Yasiel Puig was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Logan Forsythe finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Tony Cingrani earned the win in relief.
Pirates almost no-hit at Cardinals
In the series finale at St. Louis on Sunday afternoon, Pittsburgh was shut down on two ninth-inning hits in a 5-0 loss. Cardinals starter Michael Wacha carried a no-hitter through eight innings before giving up a hit in the ninth. The Pirates only scored a total of six runs in a three-game series, winning the opener 4-0 before dropping game two by a 3-2 final. In Sunday’s game, the only hits by Pittsburgh were singles by Austin Meadows and Colin Moran. Nick Kingham suffered the loss as he gave up four runs (three earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and one walk over five innings.
Ross Stripling (3-1, 1.68 ERA) will start today for LA, while the Pirates are going with Joe Musgrove (2-0, 0.64).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The under is 8-2-2 in the Dodgers’ last 12 Tuesday games. Los Angeles is 39-19 in its last 58 Tuesday games.
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 2-7 in their last nine games overall. The over is 6-2 in the last eight Pittsburgh games versus the NL West.
Prediction:
Musgrove has looked really good in his first two starts with the Pirates after coming back from injury. In a pitcher’s park against a team coming off the friendly confines of Coors Field, I like his chances for another strong start. Stripling has been solid, but isn’t quite as good as his numbers suggest. I can see the Pirates pulling off the small upset at home tonight.
