Freeland pitches well in win over Giants
Kyle Freeland allowed three earned runs, eight hits and no walks with three strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a win Tuesday against the Giants. Freeland evened his record at 5-5 while lowering his ERA to 3.43. The pitcher even helped his own cause with a double and a run scored over three at-bats. He was also able to throw 61 of his 89 pitches for strikes, winning for the fourth time in five outings. The southpaw got off to a rough start but he has picked up the pace and emerged as a useful middle of the staff fantasy option in NL-only formats. His next scheduled start is set for next Tuesday in Cincinnati.
Reds’ DeSclafani to start on Tuesday
Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) will start for the Reds on Tuesday against the Rockies at home. It will be the right-hander’s first start at the major league level since 2016, as he was limited to just three rehab starts in 2017 with a partially torn UCL in his elbow and has been out all of this year with a strained oblique. DeSclafani was impressive on his rehab assignment, posting a 22/3 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings and allowing two or fewer runs in three of four outings. He remains an injury risk and isn’t in a great pitching environment, but DeSclafani held a 3.28 ERA over 20 starts in 2016 and is worth a shot in deeper fantasy leagues.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 0-4 in their last four games overall and are 1-4 in their last five road games.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 3-7 in their last 10 games coming off an off day and are 9-25 in their last 34 home games.
Prediction:
The Rockies are 4-1 in Freeland’s last five games, are 5-0 in his last five outings when their opponent allows five runs or more in their previous game and are 4-1 in his last five starts versus a team with a losing record. The Reds, meanwhile, are 23-49 in their last 72 games overall and we just don’t know how DeSclafani is going to fare in his return. This is a decent price on the Rockies, who granted are struggling, but should be fine tonight in Cincinnati.
MLB Prediction: Colorado Rockies -113
