Orioles postponed twice over weekend
Baltimore had its Thursday game and Sunday game against the Yankees postponed due to rain, chopping a four-game series down to two which the O’s lost 4-1 and 8-5. In the Saturday game, Kevin Gausman took the loss as he allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over 5 1/3 innings. Adam Jones went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, giving Baltimore a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a solo home run. The Yankees responded with two runs each in the second and third innings to take control. Joey Rickard and Manny Machado both added a solo home run. Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Danny Valencia finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI.
Mets swept in four-game home series by Cubs
New York was unable to gain any positive vibes from its last home series over the weekend, dropping four in a row to Chicago. The Mets only scored a total of six runs in the series, with four of those coming in one game. In Sunday’s series finale, New York was shut out by a 2-0 final and recorded only three hits. Brandon Nimmo led the way with a pair of walks and a stolen base. Kevin Plawecki, Michael Conforto and Amed Rosario each had a single. Steven Matz took the loss as he allowed two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.
Alex Cobb (1-7, 6.80 ERA) will start today for Baltimore, while New York counters with Jason Vargas (2-3, 8.53).
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are 2-14 in their last 16 interleague games. Baltimore is 21-60 in its last 81 interleague games overall.
New York
The Mets are 9-1 in the last 10 meetings. The under is 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings.
Prediction:
A pair of struggling pitchers on the mound here, but it remains to be seen if the offenses can take advantage. Cobb has shown slight improvements lately and he has extra rest coming in do to the rainouts. I like Baltimore as a small underdog to keep the Mets’ losing skid going. Rest over rust.
