Braves’ Teheran pitches well but takes loss to Mets in last start
Julio Teheran took a loss despite allowing just two runs in seven innings against the Mets on Wednesday. He made it through six frames having surrendered only an RBI-double to Adrian Gonzalez, but then he yielded another run on a Brandon Nimmo knock in the seventh and that one cost him the game. Teheran struck out three batters while allowing three free passes and five hits total for the ballgame. He falls to 4-3 with a 4.03 ERA through 12 starts. He’s been a bit homer-prone, serving up 11 longballs on the season already but he kept the ball in the yard in this one.
Padres’ Richard solid in home no-decision vs. Marlins
Clayton Richard allowed two earned runs, four hits and a walk with five strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Wednesday against Miami. Richard has lasted at least six innings in each of his past five starts, turning in four quality starts during the span. However, he has picked up just two victories during the stretch dating back to May 2. While he doesn’t have many wins to show for his efforts, he has lowered his ERA from 6.21 to 4.74 across the past five outings. He’ll look to keep up the good work for his fantasy owners when he toes the slab next on Monday against Atlanta to kick off a two-start week.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 4-17 in their last 21 games played at Petco Park but have won nine of their last 11 games versus the Padres overall.
San Diego
The Padres are 0-6 in Richard’s last six starts versus the Braves.
Prediction:
The Padres swung the bats well over the weekend and the Braves have had one of the best offenses in baseball. Thus, I’ll take the over tonight, which is 33-16-3 in the last 52 meetings between these two teams in San Diego. The over is also 4-0 in the Padres’ last four games, is 5-1 in the Braves’ last six road games versus a left-handed starter, and has cashed in seven of Atlanta’s 10 road games when facing an opponent with a losing home record.
The Pick: Braves/Padres over 7.5
