Andujar, Stanton homer in win
Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar hit a two-run home run in the second inning Saturday to stake his squad to a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. Andujar ended the game 2-for-4 with the home run, a double and two RBIs. Giancarlo Stanton added a two-run homer the next inning to push the advantage to 4-1. Stanton also went 2-for-4 with the home run, two RBIs and a walk. Aaron Hicks was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Brett Gardner was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run. Didi Gregorius finished 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Masahiro Tanaka picked up the win as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over 5 1/3 innings.
Jones leads offense in defeat
Orioles center fielder Adam Jones hit a solo home run in the first inning to put the hosts up 1-0 before New York responded quickly. Jones eventually finished 3-for-5 with the home run and two RBIs. Joey Rickard and Manny Machado both hit a solo home run. Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Danny Valencia finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run and an RBI. Kevin Gausman suffered the loss as he surrendered six runs (five earned) on nine hits with nine strikeouts and no walks over 5 1/3 innings.
Domingo German (0-3, 5.45 ERA) starts today for New York, while Alex Cobb (1-7, 6.80) takes the hill for the O’s.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 12-4 in their last 16 road games. New York is 37-17 in its last 54 games overall.
Baltimore
The Orioles are 21-60 in their last 81 games overall. Baltimore is 1-8 in Cobb’s last nine starts.
Prediction:
The Orioles aren’t very good at all and Cobb has been a major disappointment this season. But New York is sending an inexperienced struggling pitcher to the hill in German, giving Baltimore a fighting chance. If you don’t want to pay the juice on New York or go with the over because of two poor pitchers, I’d say the best bet left is on Baltimore. Cobb has shown occasional signs of improvement lately and maybe this will be a building block game toward getting his season back on track.
