According to oddsmakers, the White Sox are favored at home today, as they are getting odds of -130 to win. The Indians are listed with a money line of +110 to win while the over/under total is set at 8.5 runs. The public betting for the contest currently has 57 percent going on Cleveland on the road. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Indians get a win
Cleveland has lost the first two games in this series in pretty ugly fashion, but it bounced back on Saturday with a 5-2 victory. The Indians are 29-29 on the season, 14-15 on the road and 34-23 with the under. Zach Plesac gets the start for Cleveland today. He is 0-0 on the year with a 1.69 ERA.
The Indians didn’t light the world on fire at the plate on Saturday, but their pitching came through. Jefry Rodriguez lasted just four innings and allowed only one run, but the bullpen pitched five innings and allowed just one run on two hits. Oliver Perez got the win in relief while Brad Hand earned his 16th save of the season with a perfect ninth. Carlos Santana hit his 11th home run of the season in the win while Leonys Martin also homered and drove in two runs.
White Sox end win streak
Chicago had its five-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday in the loss at home to Cleveland. The White Sox are 28-30 on the season, 16-14 at home and 30-27 with the under. Chicago sends Lucas Giolito to the mound this afternoon. He is 7-1 on the season with a 2.85 ERA.
Ivan Nova had a pretty strong start for Chicago, allowing just three earned runs over seven innings, but the White Sox couldn’t continue their strong hitting. Nova fell to 3-5 on the season with the loss. Eloy Jimenez led Chicago at the plate with a pair of hits while both runs were driven in on sacrifice flies.
MLB Betting Trends
The Indians are just 4-9 in their last 13 games overall and 1-5 in their last six against a team with a losing record.
The White Sox have won five of their last six home games and Giolito’s last six starts.
Giolito has been pretty impressive since mid-April. He is pitching deep into games and not taking a great deal of damage. His strikeouts numbers have been improving and his WHIP is currently below 1.00. Plesac has just one start in the majors, a 5.1-inning effort at Boston on May 28. He gave up just one run on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. While not bad, it’s a small sample size and the Indians had to use a lot of arms on Saturday. I think Giolito will stay in the game long and help the Chicago pen stay fresh while the Indians will struggle later in the game without their best arms available.
MLB Prediction: Chicago White Sox -130
