Barria shines in Angels win
Los Angeles starting pitcher Jaime Barria is 24 years younger than 45-year-old Texas starter Bartolo Colon and it was the youth movement that won out Friday night. Barria threw six shutout inning, giving up four hits while striking out six and walking one. The Angels scored two runs each in the first, second and third innings to provide the offense in the 6-0 win. Albert Pujols socked his 622nd career home run, a 2-run shot in the first innning. He finished 2-for-4 with two runs and the two RBIs. Ian Kinsler also hit a 2-run home run. Mike Trout was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.
Colon shows age
Despite being the oldest player in baseball, Colon has been effective many times this season with none better than against the Astros when he carried a perfect game into the eighth inning. On Friday night, however, Colon struggled to get anyone out. He was shelled for six earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and a walk over three innings. His ERA jumped to 4.21 from 3.55. Shin-soo Choo, Rougned Odor and Carlos Perez all had two hits including a double for the Rangers.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The under is 10-4 in the last 14 Texas road games. The Rangers are 2-7 in Hamels’ last nine starts.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 9-3 in Richards’ last 12 starts against Texas. The over is 7-2-1 in the last 10 Los Angeles games on Saturday.
Prediction:
I can’t trust the Rangers right now, especially on the road. Richards should be able to carve through the Texas lineup as long as he throws strikes. Hamels just doesn’t have the stuff he used to and is vulnerable against an LA lineup that contains plenty of right-handed power.
