Athletics destroy Royals
The Athletics dominated the Royals on Friday, picking up a 16-0 win. The win was the second straight for Oakland. The Athletics are now 30-28 overall and 15-13 on the road. Oakland is putting up 4.48 runs per game this season while allowing 4.33 per contest.
Trevor Cahill will take the mound for the Athletics on Saturday. He is 1-2 through seven starts this year. Cahill has a 2.25 ERA and 0.89 WHIP, he just hasn’t gotten much in terms of run support. Through 44.0 innings, Cahill has 41 strikeouts with nine walks.
Royals fall apart
Kansas City had been playing well by its standards until Friday’s 16-0 thrashing. They have still won six of their last 10 on the year. KC is now 20-37 overall and 9-20 at home. The Royals are scoring 4.04 runs per game this season while allowing 5.70 per contest.
Jason Hammel will be on the mound for the Royals this afternoon. He has started 11 games this year and has a 4.09 ERA with a 1.42 WHIP. Hammel has looked good in his last two starts, allowing just one run over 12.1 innings. This season, Hammel has 43 strikeouts and 18 walks over 65.1 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics have won five straight road games and six straight road games against a right-handed starter. They also have won 21 of their last 28 against AL Central opponents.
Kansas City
The Royals have lost their last four Saturday games and eight of their last 10 against AL West opponents. They also are 4-11 in Hammel’s last 15 starts.
Prediction:
The Athletics showed what they are capable of on the mound and at the plate with Friday’s 16-0 win. While Hammel has been pitching better as of late, I don’t think he can keep up with Cahill. Cahill has been really strong, he just needs the run support. I think he will get it today. Maybe not against Hammel, but at least against the awful KC bullpen.
The Pick: Oakland Athletics -140
