Heaney gives up five in first at Tigers
A five-run first inning by Detroit set the Angels back in the series finale Thursday afternoon. Los Angeles starter Andrew Heaney ended up settling down, going five innings and allowing the five earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk. The Angels scored once in the fifth to make it 5-1 and again in the eighth to put it at the 6-2 final it eventually settled at. Ian Kinsler was 3-for-4 with a double and a run at the top of the order. Mike Trout contributed an RBI single. Andrelton Simmons finished 2-for-4. Jose Briceno accounted for the other run as he went 2-for-4 with a solo home run.
Rangers bats go cold in Seattle
Texas scored a combined 16 runs in the middle two games of a four-game series at Seattle, winning both. But the Rangers settled for only a split as they recorded only a single run in the other two contests, falling 6-1 in Thursday’s finale. The lone run for Texas came on a solo home run off the bat of Nomar Mazara to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the fourth inning. Mazara went 2-for-4 and the homer was his 13th of the season. Adrian Beltre finished 2-for-4 in his return from the disabled list, while Joey Gallo was also 2-for-4. Mike Minor suffered the loss as he gave up five runs (four earned on six hits over five innings, striking out two and walking two.
Bartolo Colon (2-2, 3.55 ERA) starts today for Texas, while the Angels counter with Jaime Barria (4-1, 2.97).
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The under is 9-4 in the last 13 Rangers road games. Texas is 4-1 in its last five Friday games.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 13-5 in thelr last 18 games vs. the AL West. Los Angeles is 17-35 in its last 52 Friday games.
Prediction:
Colon can somehow still frustrate batters and get them out despite routinely throwing the same pitch over and over, simply mixing speeds and location. But he’ll be facing a salty Angels team after playing poorly the last two days in Detroit. Barria has been trustworthy so far in his MLB career and I expect that to continue against a Texas squad that has some power, but also many undisciplined hitters. I’m going with the favorites here.
