Tampa playing well out West
The Rays did lose on Thursday, 7-3, but they had won three straight at Oakland prior to that. Tampa has now won five of its last six overall. The Rays are 28-27 overall and 17-14 on the road. Tampa is averaging 4.24 runs per game on offense while allowing 42.4 on the mound.
Serio Romo will get another start for the Rays today as they do their relief starter. Romo has a 6.33 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 24 appearances. He has allowed six runs over his last 2.2 innings of work. Romo has 28 strikeouts and 10 walks over 21.1 innings on the year.
Seattle winning consistently
The Mariners are coming off a 6-1 win over the Rangers on Thursday for their fifth win in seven games and seventh win in 10. Seattle is now 34-22 on the season and 17-12 at home. The Mariners are putting up 4.39 runs per game while allowing 4.16 per contest.
Mike Leake is getting the start for the Mariners tonight. He has a 5-3 record with a 4.93 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Leake has pitched a total of 65.2 innings and has 39 strikeouts with 16 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
Tampa has won nine of its last 11 road games coming into the weekend and they are 7-2 in their last nine games against AL West opponents.
Seattle
The Mariners have won eight of their last 10 home games and nine of their last 13 Friday games. They have also won Leake’s last four starts.
Prediction:
I don’t feel great about the Tampa relief starter experiment anymore. Romo hasn’t been improving through this, only getting worse. Leake doesn’t have great season numbers, but has allowed just two earned runs over his last 14.2 innings of work. He hasn’t walked a batter in three straight starts as well. I think he will continue to pitch well while Seattle finds some offense against this odd pitching rotation.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners -130
