Reds' Mahle allows four runs over five innings vs. Rockies

Tyler Mahle allowed four runs over five innings against the Reds on Saturday. Mahle was able to strike out four, but he also walked four and gave up six hits. It's an improvement over his last start where he went 3 1/3 innings, but once again the rookie right-hander struggled with his command. Mahle will take a 4.76 ERA into his next start on Friday when he faces the Padres in San Diego.

Lockett draws start for Padres on Friday night

The Padres have filled their rotation vacancy. Walker Lockett will get the ball Friday for his Major League debut when San Diego opens a three-game series against the Reds at Petco Park.

It's unclear how long Lockett will remain in the rotation. That depends, in part, on how well he pitches. The Padres will make a corresponding move ahead of Friday's game.

"This is the time to start taking looks at guys," Padres manager Andy Green said. "He's got the opportunity to come up here, establish himself and throw the ball well and possibly earn another shot."

MLB Betting Trends

The Reds are 1-4 in their last five games against the Padres played at Petco Park.

San Diego

The under is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams in San Diego but the over is a perfect 4-0 in the last four meetings.

The Reds are just 22-47 in their last 69 games overall, are 2-5 in Mahle's last seven starts when facing an opponent with a losing record and are 0-6 in their last six games coming off a win. The Padres are 4-1 in their last five home games, are 5-1 in their last six games versus the National League Central and have won nine of their last 13 games a right-handed starter. I'll take a flier on the dog.

The Pick: San Diego Padres +100
