Rays rolling
Tampa Bay picked up a 4-3 win over the Athletics on Tuesday for their fourth straight win. Their pitching has held their last six opponents to three runs or less. The Rays are 27-26 overall and 16-13 on the road. Tampa is putting up 4.23 runs per game this season while allowing 4.26 per contest.
Nathan Eovaldi gets the start for the Rays tonight. He is making his 2018 debut and Rays debut tonight. He last pitched in 2016 for the Yankees and was 9-8 with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He has been recovering from elbow surgery.
Oakland stumbles again
The Athletics have lost the first two games in this series and they have been held to 3 runs or less in seven of their last eight games. Oakland is now 28-27 overall and 14-14 at home. The Athletics are averaging 4.31 runs per game this season while allowing 4.40 per contest.
Sean Manaea gets the start for the Athletics tonight. He is 5-5 through 11 starts with a 3.34 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. However, he has given up four runs or more in his last five starts. Through 70 innings, Manaea has 53 strikeouts and 13 walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays have won eight of their last nine road games and eight of their last 10 games following a win. They have also won five straight Game 3’s.
Oakland
The Athletics are just 3-8 in their last 11 home games and 1-4 in their last five Wednesday games. Oakland has managed to win 12 of its last 17 against AL East opponents.
Prediction:
This matchup is interesting, as the Rays are playing well, but really have no idea what to expect from Eovaldi. It’s been a long road for him to return, but I can’t imagine he will have a lengthy outing. Manaea looked like a Cy Young winner early in the year but has been trending downward. Still, I trust him more than Eovaldi. I think Oakland finds a way to win.
The Pick: Oakland Athletics -140
