Conforto grand slam lifts Mets
New York earned a 7-3 victory Tuesday night at the Dodgers as the first grand slam in the MLB career of Michael Conforto sent the visitors to a 7-3 victory. The score was tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning when the Conforto blast broke it open. Conforto finished 1-for-4 with the grand slam, a walk and five RBIs. Amed Rosario ended the night 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, a stolen base, a run and an RBI. Todd Frazier was 2-for-4 with a solo home plus a walk. Carlos Gomez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Steven Matz earned the win as he allowed two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks over six innings. The Mets will turn to Noah Syndergaard tonight as he enters with a 3-4 record, 4.93 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 72 strikeouts over 69 1/3 innings.
Bellinger homers in loss
Los Angeles gave up four runs in the top of the seventh and lost 7-3 at home Tuesday night against New York. Cody Bellinger was 1-for-3 with his 20th home run of the season plus two RBIs in the defeat. Will Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Matt Beaty went 1-for-2 with an RBI off the bench. Yimi Garcia took the loss in relief as he walked the only batter he faced. Prediction:
I think we can all agree Syndergaard isn’t pitching up to his usual standards, but is he really that far off? The strikeout rate is still high and he’s had some gems recently. Granted, this is a very tough matchup and there is a tough opposing pitcher, but the Mets are a streaky team that is riding a high after last night’s win. This is a great price for a pitcher like Syndergaard and I’m going to take a chance on it.
