Diamondbacks’ Godley struggles vs. Brewers
Zack Godley got rocked for seven hits and eight runs (six earned) in just 3 1/3 innings Wednesday in the Diamondbacks’ loss to Milwaukee.
Godley walked six and struck out three while throwing 50 of his 88 pitches for strikes. Arizona actually held a 2-1 lead going into the fourth inning but that’s when the wheels fell off for Godley, who yielded four hits, two walks and seven runs in the frame before finally getting the hook from manager Torey Lovullo. One of those hits included a three-run homer by Travis Shaw.
The right-hander is now 0-3 with a 5.27 ERA in five starts this month. He’ll look to bounce back Tuesday at home against Cincinnati.
Reds’ Castillo pitches six strong innings to beat Pirates
Luis Castillo pitched six innings of two-run ball for a win Thursday against the Pirates. Castillo pitched five scoreless innings before giving up a two-run homer to David Freese in the sixth. It’s the fifth straight start in which he’s allowed one or two earned runs, and his ERA has dropped from 7.85 to 5.34 this month.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are a perfect 4-0 in Castillo’s last four starts and have won four of his last five outings when coming off a quality start in his last appearance.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 6-18 in their last 24 games overall and have dropped four of Godley’s last five starts.
Prediction:
Even though the Diamondbacks scored 12 runs yesterday I believe that will wind up being an aberration and not a trend. Homer Bailey pitched for the Reds and he does an excellent job giving up runs, while Castillo should fare better tonight. The under is 11-4-1 in the last 16 meetings between these two teams at Chase Field and is 6-2 in the Reds’ last eight games overall.
The Pick: Reds/Diamondbacks under 8
