Nats fall in series finale
Washington lost 3-2 at home Monday afternoon against Miami to drop to 22-32 overall and 13-15 at home. Gerardo Parra helped pace the Nationals offense as he finished 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Max Scherzer helped his own cause as he went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Kurt Suzuki ended the contest 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Kyle Barraclough took the loss in relief as he surrendered one unearned run on one hit with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Stephen Strasburg starts tonight for Washington as he enters with a 4-3 record, 3.25 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 87 strikeouts over 72 innings.
Braves edge Cardinals in 10 innings
Brian McCann drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the 10th inning to guide Atlanta to a 4-3 victory at St. Louis. McCann was 0-for-3 in the contest, but drew two walks to go with the RBI. Freddie Freeman helped lead the Braves as he went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Ozzie Albies was 2-for-5 plus an RBI. Austin Riley ended the night 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Jacob Webb threw a perfect inning of relief to pick up the win. Luke Jackson gave up one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn his seventh save. Max Fried will start tonight for the Braves as he comes in with a 7-2 record, 2.88 ERA and 1.12 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 56 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 0-5 in their last five road games. Washington is 71-29 in the last 100 Strasburg starts
Atlanta
The Braves are 5-0 in their last five games versus the NL East. Atlanta is 4-1 in the last five Fried starts.
Prediction:
This should be a good pitching matchup, but I still trust Strasburg more to put the Nationals in a position to win. Sure, it’s been a struggle for Washington this season but it does have bats that are solid against left-handed pitching and not a lot will be needed to support Strasburg. As long as he goes deep into the game and the bullpen doesn’t have to be relied on, the Nats should be in good shape.
