Oscar Mercado paced the Indians offense as he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs scored. Jason Kipnis was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Mike Freeman was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jefry Rodriguez suffered the loss as he allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts and three walks over 4 1/3 innings. Zach Plesac will make his MLB debut tonight on the mound for Cleveland.
Martinez homers twice in win
Boston overcame an early deficit Monday afternoon for a 12-5 home victory over Cleveland to improve to 29-25 overall and 14-10 at home. J.D. Martinez helped pace the Red Sox ofense as he ended the game 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs. Sandy Leon finished 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Jackie Bradley Jr. was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, a run and two RBIs. Rick Porcello picked up the win as he gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 6 2/3 innings. MLB Betting Trends
The Indians are 1-4 in their last five games versus the AL East. Cleveland is 1-7 in its last eight games overall.
The Red Sox are 18-8 in their last 26 games overall. Boston is 26-10 in the last 36 starts by Price.
Boston should be able to solve Plesac as he is a two-pitch pitcher and will likely need to develop a third offering to be effective as a starter at the MLB level. Price left his start in the first inning Saturday with a minor ailment, but is good to go three days later. Look for Price to baffle the slumping Cleveland bats and send the hosts to another win.
