Astros blow lead, lose at Indians
In what might have been the game of the year to date, Houston lost its grasp on a big ninth inning lead at Cleveland as an 8-3 ninth inning lead quickly turned into an 8-8 game. Both teams scored once in the 13th before the Indians prevailed 10-9 in a 14-inning thriller. Jose Altuve paced the Astros offense by going 4-for-6 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Evan Gattis had an even bigger day with two home runs and four RBIs. Max Stassi also hit a home run. Brad Peacock took the loss in relief.
New York gets fantastic start from Tanaka
The Yankees won two out of three in their home series with the Angels after earning a 3-1 Sunday win behind a rock solid start from Masahiro Tanaka. He allowed only one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Aroldis Chapman earned his 11th save. Brett Gardner was 3-for-4 to help lead the offense. Aaron Judge was 1-for-2 and drew two walks. Greg Bird had an RBI single. Aaron Hicks and Miguel Andujar both drove in a run.
Houston turns to Justin Verlander (6-2, 1.08 ERA) for today’s start, while New York will go with Domingo German (0-2, 5.59 ERA).
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 14-5 in their last 19 road games. Houston is 8-3 in its last 11 games overall.
New York
The Yankees are 24-7 in their last 31 games overall. New York is 20-6 in its last 26 Monday games.
Prediction:
German can’t afford mistakes when trying to match Verlander. While the Yankees have a potent offense, Verlander is mowing everyone down. You can’t say the same for German and he’ll also be facing a fantastic offense. Houston is also a little salty after yesterday. I feel this line could be even wider.
