Reds’ Bailey allows four runs in five innings vs. Pirates
Homer Bailey allowed four runs on 10 hits in five innings and took a no-decision against the Pirates on Wednesday. He teed up a two-run tater to catcher Francisco Cervelli in the first inning. Bailey notched three strikeouts and issued three free passes in yet another dismal effort. The Reds eventually tied the game before falling in extra innings.
Bailey is 1-6 with a 6.21 ERA and 1.69 WHIP after 11 starts. The Reds have starter Anthony DeSclafani (oblique) expected to come off the disabled list soon and may decide to send Bailey to the bullpen despite his massive contract.
Diamondbacks’ Koch pitches well in loss to Brewers
Matt Koch pitched well in a losing effort against the Brewers on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits over his 5 1/3 frames. Koch punched out five and walked three on the night. The only blemish on his evening came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Domingo Santana in the sixth inning. Now 2-3 on the season, Koch will carry a 3.77 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 25/12 K/BB ratio into Sunday’s start against the Athletics in Oakland.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 3-14 in Bailey’s last 17 starts after allowing five runs or more in their previous game and are 1-6 in his last seven outings coming off four days of rest.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 7-19 in their last 26 games overall and are 1-6 in their last seven home games.
Prediction:
Even though Bailey is on the mound for the Reds, I’m still going to back Cincinnati as the underdog. Arizona has been a disaster the past couple of weeks and has lost nine of its last 10 games, even when it has the pitching advantage. The Reds are 5-1 in their last six games coming off a loss while the Diamondbacks are 3-14 in their last 17 games coming off a defeat.
The Pick: Cincinnati Reds +130
