Mets slip past Tigers
A four-run fourth inning propelled New York to a 4-3 victory Sunday afternoon at home versus Detroit to improve to 26-26 overall and 15-9 at home. Adeiny Hechavarria hit a go-ahead 3-run home run in the winning effort. It was his only hit in three at-bats. Dominic Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored to help pace the offense. Todd Frazier went 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Zack Wheeler picked up the win as he allowed three earned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and one walk over 7 1/3 innings. Starting tonight will be deGrom as he enters with a 3-5 record, 3.72 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 75 strikeouts over 58 innings.
Turner has five hits in win
Los Angeles finished a sweep at Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon with an 11-7 victory to improve to 35-18 overall and 16-12 on the road. Justin Turner paced the Dodgers offense as he went 5-for-5 plus a walk and scored three runs. Joc Pederson ended the contest 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Corey Seager finished 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Matt Beatty was 2-for-6 with a run and four RBIs. Kenta Maeda picked up the win as he allowed three earned runs on five hits over five innings, striking out four and walking none. Kershaw draws the start tonight as he comes in with a 4-0 record, 3.33 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 44 strikeouts over 46 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 6-1 in their last seven games. New York is 6-2 in its last eight Monday games.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 20-7 in their last 27 games overall. Los Angeles is 14-3 in the last 17 meetings.
Prediction:
New York will have a fighter’s chance with deGrom on the mound as he is coming off a start where he went toe-to-toe with Max Scherzer, getting the win after the Nationals bullpen imploded. But I don’t expect the same result here. Look for the Mets to struggle with the time change, although LA is coming from Pittsburgh. And to also struggle against Kershaw, who even if his best is behind him he is still one of the top pitchers in baseball. Los Angeles is one of the top teams in baseball and it will show once again tonight.
