Four-run fourth downs Tigers
Detroit squandered a 3-0 lead as it gave up four runs in the fourth inning Sunday afternoon at the Mets to fall by a count of 4-3. Nicholas Castellanos paced the Tigers offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Niko Goodrum went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. JaCoby Jones was 2-for-4 plus a stolen base. Spencer Turnbull suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one. Daniel Norris starts tonight for Detroit as he comes in with a 2-2 record, 4.30 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 33 strikeouts over 46 innings.
O’s falter late at Rockies
After taking the lead with a three-run eighth inning Sunday afternoon, Baltimore gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to fall 8-7 at Colorado. Jonathan Villar helped lead the offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs. Trey Mancini ended the contest 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Keon Broxton was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Paul Fry took the loss as he gave up one earned run on no hits, walking the only batter he faced. Gabriel Ynoa takes the mound today for the Orioles as he enters with an 0-1 record, 5.60 ERA and 1.58 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 17 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 23-49 in their last 72 road games. Detroit is 1-5 in its last six series openers.
Baltimore
The Orioles are 7-18 in their last 25 Monday games. Baltimore is 4-1 in its last five home meetings versus the Tigers.
Prediction:
In a battle of two poor teams, I think the Coors Field effect might mess with the Orioles for a day. Norris is capable of good starts as long as he finds his locations, while the Tigers offense will get a boost in a hitter’s park against subpar pitching. Betting against Baltimore as a favorite seems like a decent strategy and I’m rolling with it on Memorial Day.
