Astros Cole strikes out eight in win over Giants
Gerrit Cole continued his dominance on Tuesday, allowing just two runs on four hits over six innings in a victory over the Giants. The right-hander racked up another eight strikeouts in this one against three walks. The only success against him came on Brandon Crawford's two-run homer in the fifth inning.
Next to teammate Justin Verlander, there hasn't been a better pitcher in all of baseball this season. Cole now sits at 5-1 with a microscopic 1.86 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 101/17 K/BB ratio in his 67 2/3 innings (13.43 K/9). He'll do battle against the Indians his next time out in Cleveland on Sunday.
Indians' Bauer goes six scoreless, lowers ERA to 2.35
Trevor Bauer held the Cubs off the scoreboard for six innings Tuesday, picking up his fourth victory in the Indians’ 10-1 win. Six of the seven hits Bauer surrendered on the night were singles, and he walked two while notching six strikeouts.
The right-hander was knocked around by the Royals a couple starts ago to push his ERA up to 3.00, but it’s back down to 2.35 after 14 scoreless frames over his last two outings. He’ll face a tall task in keeping the scoreless streak going on Sunday against the Astros.
MLB Betting Trends
The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams at Progressive Field and is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall.
The Indians are a perfect 7-0 in Bauer's last seven starts versus the Astros and are 4-0 in his last four home outings against Houston.
Given this pitching matchup, it's tempting to take the under but with the way these two teams have swung the bats in the series I'm not going to risk it. Bauer has been fantastic for the Indians but I'm going to jump on the chance to take the Astros at a discount with Cole on the mound. They're a perfect 5-0 in his last five starts and are 5-0 in his last five road outings. They're also 57-27 in their last 84 games coming off a loss.
The Pick: Houston Astros -130
