Tigers fall in 13 innings
Detroit lost 5-4 in 13 innings Saturday evening at New York to drop to 19-30 overall and 10-13 on the road. Dawel Lugo helped pace the Tigers offense in the defeat as he finished 4-for-7 at the plate. JaCoby Jones was 2-for-5 with an RBI plus two stolen bases. Josh Harrison ended the night 2-for-6 with a double and a run. Brandon Dixon was 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit 2-run homer. Buck Farmer took the loss in relief as he surrendered a solo home run to the only batter he faced. Spencer Turnbull will start today for Detroit as he enters with a 2-3 record, 2.68 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 54 strikeouts over 53 2/3 innings.
Nido powers Mets to win
Tomas Nido hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 13th inning Saturday night to send New York to a 5-4 home victory over Detroit. It was the only hit for Nido in two at-bats after entering the contest off the bench. Wilson Ramos paced the Mets offense as he finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, a walk and four RBIs. Todd Frazier ended the contest 2-for-5. Hector Santiago picked up the win as he gave up one hit with three strikeouts and two walks over two innings of relief. Zack Wheeler draws the start for New York as he comes in with a 3-3 record, 4.74 ERA and 1.37 ERA with 70 strikeouts over 62 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games. Detroit is 1-5 in its last six games versus the NL East.
New York
The Mets are 2-10 in their last 12 series finales. New York is 1-6 in its last seven Sunday games.
Prediction:
Detroit is bad offensively and couldn’t capitalize on opportunities to get it done in extra innings last night. Wheeler has been inconsistent this season, but he was stellar last year and has had his moments this season where he’s been stellar. This has the feelings of a get-well game and I like the Mets to pull out the win as favorites. Turnbull has regressed a bit and it’s probably a closer representative of where he is as an MLB pitcher.
