Cubs put up four-spot in seventh
Chicago went into the bottom of the seventh tied 1-1 with San Francisco Friday afternoon before recording a four-run inning to take control of the contest. Ben Zobrist helped pace the Cubs offense by going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Kris Bryant was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Addison Russell was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Ian Happ walked twice and scored two runs, while Anthony Rizzo contributed an RBI single. Kyle Hendricks allowed one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over seven innings to get the win. Brandon Morrow threw one-third of an inning for his 11th save.
Hernandez homers from leadoff spot
Giants center fielder Gorkys Hernandez hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning which tied the score at 1-1 before the Cubs later took control. He also had a single in the loss. Hernandez has been a bright spot for San Francisco, batting .296 on the season. Evan Longoria had an RBI single in the loss, while Brandon Belt added a single and scored the other run. Derek Holland gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings to suffer the loss.
Chris Stratton (5-3, 4.92 ERA) will start today for the Giants, while the Cubs turn to Jose Quintana (5-3, 4.47 ERA).
MLB Betting Trends
San Francisco
The Giants are 2-9 in their last 11 games following a loss. San Francisco is 3-13 in its last 16 meetings in Chicago.
Chicago
The Cubs are 10-2 in the last 12 Quintana home starts. The under is 7-1-2 in the last 10 meetings in Chicago.
Prediction:
San Francisco has struggled the last several years at Wrigley Field and I can’t imagine today will likely go much better. Quintana is starting to settle into a groove it seems, while the hard-hit rate versus Stratton has led to some ugly numbers. I can’t expect him to navigate through the Chicago lineup without plenty of hiccups. Bet on the Cubs here.
