Stripling tosses gem
Dodgers starting pitcher Ross Stripling was excellent Friday night as he hurled 6 2/3 innings, giving up one unearned run on six hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Three relievers completed the win with Kenley Jansen registering his 11th save. Matt Kemp paced the offense as he went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Kemp’s homer came in the first inning to stake LA to a 3-0 lead that lasted the rest of the game. Enrique Hernandez added a solo home run.
Pirela has three-hit night
The Padres only had six hits as a team Friday, but three of them belonged to second baseman Jose Pirela as he finished 3-for-4 with a double. Manuel Margot added a double and scored the lone San Diego run, driven in by Travis Jankowski. Eric Hosmer and Freddy Galvis both contributed one hit in the loss. Clayton Richard surrendered four earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks over six innings.
Jordan Lyles (1-1, 3.11 ERA) starts tonight for the Padres, while Los Angeles counters with Alex Wood (1-4, 3.32 ERA)
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The over is 20-8-2 in the last 30 meetings. The Padres are 16-35 in the last 51 meetings.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 7-1 in their last eight games overall. Los Angeles is 26-11 in its last 37 Saturday games.
Prediction:
Lyles might be able to keep San Diego in the game, but I doubt the Padres will be able to generate enough offense against Wood to offset the mistake or two Lyles is bound to make. Los Angeles is in a good place right now and playing better ball than it has much of the season. Go with the hosts here and consider the runline if the moneyline is too much for you.
