Nationals’ Scherzer strikes out 13 in no-decision
Max Scherzer allowed two earned runs, five hits and three walks with 13 strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Saturday against the Dodgers. Scherzer threw 89 of his 121 pitches for strikes, leaving the game with a 4-3 lead. However, closer Sean Doolittle was unable to close the door. Still, the multi-colored eye fireballer has recorded 10 or more strikeouts in a season-high three straight outings. He’ll look to extend that run when he takes the ball Friday night in Miami.
Marlins’ Urena falls short of quality start vs. Braves
Jose Urena surrendered four runs on five hits over six innings in Saturday’s loss to the Braves. Urena struck out two and walked one over his six innings of work. All four runs on his line scored in the fifth inning. Just three of his 10 starts this season have seen him allow fewer than three runs and he’s currently the owner of an 0-7 record. As if he needed it, he’s got a a difficult one in front of him next — at home against the Nationals. Urena will bring a 4.55 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 45/14 K/BB ratio (57 1/3 innings) into that contest.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are a perfect 8-0 in their last eight games against the Marlins and have won five of Scherzer’s last seven starts versus Miami.
Miami
The Marlins are just 2-15 in Urena’s last 17 starts and are 0-9 in his last nine outings coming off five days of rest.
Prediction:
The under is 21-8-2 in the last 31 meetings between these two teams when the game is played at Marlins Park and is 2-0-2 in the last four meetings overall. Scherzer should have zero problems holding Miami’s weak offense in check and he should give us enough margin for error so that whatever the Nationals do offensively it still won’t be enough to push the score over the betting total.
The Pick: Nationals/Marlins under 7
