Pirates’ Kuhl allows four runs, lasts just 4 1/3 innings
Chad Kuhl allowed four runs while lasting only 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Padres. Kuhl gave up six hits and walked two, and Bucs manager Clint Hurdle had a quick hook after an Eric Hosmer two-run double with one out in the fifth inning coughed up the Pirates’ lead. It was a disappointing turn against a weak Padres lineup, especially after Kuhl had put together two good starts in a row heading into the outing. Through nine starts, the right-hander has a 4.53 ERA and 1.39 WHIP.
Reds’ Bailey allows six runs in loss to Cubs
Homer Bailey fell to 1-6 after allowing six runs over 4 2/3 innings Friday against the Cubs. Bailey gave up 10 hits for the second straight start. On the bright side, he didn’t give up a homer for the first time since April 10. Bailey walked five batters on the night, three of them intentional to Ian Happ. He holds a rough 6.11 ERA over 10 starts and shouldn’t be a fantasy consideration
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are now winless in their last four games against the Reds in Cincinnati following last night’s 7-2 loss.
Cincinnati
The Reds are 2-8 in Bailey’s last 10 starts versus the Pirates and are 1-4 in his last five home outings against Pittsburgh.
Prediction:
The under has actually been a great bet in this series, going 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and a perfect 6-0 in the last six meetings in Cincinnati. That said, I see tonight being high-scoring on both sides. The over is 8-0-1 in the Kuhl’s last nine starts overall and is 7-0 in his last seven outings versus a team with a losing record. On the other side, the over is 5-2-2 in the Reds’ last nine games and is 3-0-1 in Bailey’s last four home outings.
The Pick: Pirates/Reds over 9.5
