Philadelphia Phillies Fantasy Spin
Juan Nicasio retired just one batter and blew a save Tuesday against the Cubs. Nicasio earned his first save of the season Monday with a scoreless 10th inning and the Phillies went back to him in this one as they tried to protect a one-run lead. It didn’t happen, as Nicasio walked Kris Bryant to lead off the frame and then gave up a double to Anthony Rizzo. After a flyout and intentional walk, Nicasio was slow to field a dribbler to the mound, allowing the tying run to score. He then gave up a walk-off single to pinch-hitter Javy Baez. Hector Neris was seemingly unavailable for this one after he pitched an inning Monday and appeared in back-to-back games over the weekend. Nicasio had been pitching well lately, but Neris is still the one to own in this bullpen.
Chicago Cubs Fantasy Spin
Javier Baez (heel) hit a pinch-hit walk-off RBI single in the Cubs’ defeat of the Phillies on Tuesday. Baez was held out of the starting lineup for the second straight day with a heel contusion, but Cubs manager Joe Maddon called his number with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and the star shortstop delivered with a liner to right off Juan Nicasio that plated Anthony Rizzo for the winning run. Baez is slashing .323/.362/.597 with 32 RBI in 45 games this season for the current leaders of the National League Central.
