White Sox muster only one hit
Chicago had only one hit Tuesday night in a 5-1 defeat at Houston to drop to 21-26 on the season and 10-13 on the road. The lone hit came in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run by Jose Abreu. He went 1-for-4 to lead the offense. Yonder Alonso and Yolmer Sanchez were both 0-for-2 with a walk. Dylan Covey suffered the loss as he surrendered four earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and four walks over four innings. Ivan Nova will start tonight for the White Sox as he enters with a 2-4 record, 7.42 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with 32 strikeouts over 47 1/3 innings.
Verlander carries no-hitter into seventh
Justin Verlander did not allow a hit until the seventh inning Tuesday night in a 5-1 home victory over Chicago. He gave up one earned run on one hit with a season-best 12 strikeouts and one walk over eight innings to pick up the win. Yuli Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a solo home run to help pace the offense. Michael Brantley was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Carlos Correa finished 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Cole starts tonight for the Astros as he comes in with a 4-4 record, 3.56 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 93 strikeouts over 60 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox are 1-4 in their last five games overall. Chicago is 2-6 in the last eight Nova starts on grass.
Houston
The Astros are 14-3 in the last 17 home starts by Cole. Houston is 6-0 in the last six home games versus the White Sox.
Prediction:
Cole should be able to shut down this White Sox offense and it isn’t very likely at all that Nova will return the favor. Houston is tough to beat at Minute Maid Park and even with George Springer out of the lineup, there are plenty of powerful bats to make up for his absence. Don’t overthink this one and take the Astros on the runline once again.
