Yankees’ German hit hard in last start
Domingo German was hit hard in a no-decision against the Athletics on Saturday, surrendering six runs on six hits over his five frames. German also issued three free passes while striking out just one in the contest. Most of the damage came in the fourth inning there Khris Davis blasted a three-run homer and Mark Canha added a two-run single. Even with this rough outing, he still owns a respectable 4.26 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in his 25 1/3 innings on the season. He’ll look to get back on track when he takes on the Royals in Kansas City on Saturday.
Rangers’ Hamels had his last start skipped on Saturday
Cole Hamels (neck) was scratched from his scheduled start on Saturday due to continued neck stiffness. Hamels was scratched from his start on Thursday with the same issue but was hopeful that he would have been able to start on Saturday against the White Sox. Rangers’ manager Jeff Bannister said that Hamels should be able to start in next week’s series against the Yankees. Ariel Jurado will be recalled from Double-A Frisco to start for the Rangers on Saturday.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have won six of their last seven on the road and are 13-3 in their last 16 games when facing a left-handed starter.
Texas
The Rangers have lost four of their last five games overall and are 1-6 in Hamels’ last seven starts.
Prediction:
I’ll be biting my nails for nine straight innings by taking the under when the Yankees are on the road (guaranteeing them at bats in the ninth) but I’m doing it anyway. Before last night, the Rangers were scuffling offensively and while German was hit hard in his last start, the A’s are hitting most pitchers hard at the moment. Hamels got off to a slow start to the season but has pitched well of late and has good career numbers against this current Yankees roster.
The Pick: Yankees/Rangers under 9.5
