Rockies drop final two at Giants
Second-place Colorado lost its last two games of a series at San Francisco, dropping the finale Sunday afternoon by a count of 9-5. The Rockies evened the score in the top of the seventh at 5-5 with a run, but proceeded to allow four runs in the bottom half to fall behind for good. Bryan Shaw allowed two earned runs in an inning of relief to suffer the loss on the mound. Nolan Arenado paced the Colorado offense as he was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Trevor Story was also 3-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Noel Cuevas finished 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Pat Valaika ended the game 2-for-4 with a double.
German Marquez (2-5, 5.15 ERA) will start today for the Rockies.
Dodgers complete sweep at Nats
Los Angeles won its fourth in a row and finished off a three-game sweep of host Washington Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 victory. The Dodgers trailed 2-1 until the fifth when a two-run home run by Enrique Hernandez put them up 3-2. Two insurance runs crossed in the eighth on a Yasiel Puig two-run homer, while two more runs scored in the ninth as LA eased to the win. Alex Wood allowed two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts and a walk over six innings to earn the win. Josh Fields pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for his second save. Matt Kemp was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored to help lead the offense. Hernandez was 1-for-2 with the two-run homer, two walks and two runs scored.
Rookie Walker Buehler (2-1, 2.67) gets the starting nod for Los Angeles.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The under is 16-6-1 in the last 23 Rockies games overall. Colorado is 8-3 in its last 11 road games.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 4-10 in their last 14 games versus a right-handed starter. Los Angeles is 78-29 in its last 107 games following a win.
Prediction:
The Dodgers have shown in recent seasons that when they get hot, it can take a long time before they ever cool down. Buehler has been a fantastic addition to the rotation so far and this matchup sets up nicely for him in a home pitcher’s park against an offense that isn’t nearly as good away from Coors Field. The under is certainly in play here, although Marquez scares me off a little bit with the low number. But I do feel safe betting on Los Angeles as a big favorite.
