Athletics best the Tigers again
The Oakland Athletics earned a 7-2 win over Detroit on Friday for their 14th consecutive win over Detroit. Oakland is now 21-25 on the season, 7-15 on the road and 23-23 with the over/under total. The Athletics have Daniel Mengden on the mound today. He is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA.
The Athletics continued their run over the Tigers on Friday thanks to Frankie Montas, who pitched all but the final out. Montas went 8.2 innings, striking out 10 while giving up two runs and four hits. He improves to 5-2 on the season. Chad Pinder and Mark Canha both homered at the plate while Khris Davis had three hits and a RBI.
Tigers drop another
Detroit suffered a fifth straight loss on Friday following a 7-2 loss to the Athletics. Detroit is now 18-25 on the season, 9-13 at home and 24-18 with the under. The Tigers have Matthew Boyd on the mound today. He is 4-3 on the season with a 3.15 ERA.
The Tigers had Daniel Norris fall to 2-2 on the season. He gave up six earned runs over 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits with just two strikeouts. Miguel Cabrera had two doubles in the loss and drove in his 16th run of the season. Josh Harrison also drove in another run at the plate.
MLB Betting Trends
The Athletics are 8-2 in Mengden’s last 10 road starts, but are 3-11 in their last 14 road games.
The Tigers are just 13-43 in their last 56 against AL West opponents and they are 0-6 in their last six home games against a right-handed starter.
The Athletics just own the Tigers, plain and simple. While the pitching matchup today’s doesn’t look the most favorable. Mengden gave up four runs over 5.1 innings to Cleveland in his only start this year. Boyd has given up three runs or less in all of his starts this year. Still, Detroit doesn’t have much hitting to rely on and they haven’t been able to hit against Oakland for years.
MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -115
