Tigers take opener
Detroit edged Seattle on Thursday night in the opener, 3-2. The Tigers have won four of their last five coming into tonight. Detroit is now 20-23 overall and 8-13 on the road. The Tigers are scoring 4.44 runs per game this season while allowing 4.70 per contest.
Michael Fulmer gets the start for the Tigers on Friday night. He is just 1-3 this season with a 4.37 ERA and 1.35 WHIP through eight starts. He gave up six runs in 4.1 innings to Seattle last week at home in a losing effort. Fulmer has 39 strikeouts with 15 walks over 45.1 innings of work this season.
Mariners drop back-to-back games
Seattle hadn’t lost back-to-back games in weeks prior to Thursday. Seattle comes into tonight’s game 24-19 overall and 9-10 at home. The Mariners are putting up 4.56 runs per game this year while allowing 4.56 per contest.
Felix Hernandez gets the start for the Mariners tonight. He is 5-3 through nine starts with a 5.66 ERA and 1.42 WHIP. King Felix has 45 strikeouts with 22 walks over 49.1 innings of work. He gave up five runs to the Tigers last week, but still got the win.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers have won five of Fulmer’s last six Friday starts and 13 of his last 19 starts with five days of rest.
Seattle
The Mariners have won Hernandez’ last five starts against AL Central opponents, but they are just 1-6 in their last seven home games against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
Seattle won this matchup last week in Detroit, but Fulmer had his worst outing of the season. Hernandez gave up five runs and still got a win, but he has given up five runs in his last two starts. King Felix hasn’t looked like a king this year and I think Fulmer has the better upside of the two starters. Seattle has lost Robinson Cano to a suspension and Nelson Cruz is battling an injury.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers +135
