Yankees’ Sabathia allows nine hits, four runs in last start
CC Sabathia allowed nine hits and four runs over four innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Red Sox. Sabathia gave up a solo homer among his nine hits, never really falling apart despite clearly not being at the top of his game. The no-decision kept his record at 2-0, and even with the subpar outing Sabathia owns a 2.23 ERA and 1.02 WHIP through seven starts. An interleague start against the tough Nationals is up next when the teams meet Wednesday.
Nationals’ Scherzer strikes out 11 in seventh win of season
Max Scherzer moved to 7-1 after allowing one run in seven innings Friday against the Diamondbacks. Par for the course for Scherzer of late. He struck out 11, giving him six games of 10 strikeouts in nine tries. He still hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any outing. He’s a clear Cy Young favorite at this point.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have won four of Sabathia’s last five starts and are 18-7 in his last 25 interleague starts.
Washington
The Nationals are 42-15 in Scherzer’s last 57 starts and are 19-7 in his last 26 home outings.
Prediction:
Both of these offenses should be downgraded tonight. The under is 5-1 in the Nationals’ last six games overall, is 3-1-1 in Scherzer’s last five outings versus the American League East, and is 6-2-1 in his last nine interleague outings overall. On the other side, the under is 16-5-2 in Sabathia’s last 23 road starts, is 12-5 in his last 17 outings coming off five days of rest, and is 4-1 in the Yankees’ last five road games.
The Pick: Yankees/Nationals under 7.5
