Dodgers’ Wood strikes out four in no-decision
Alex Wood allowed one earned run, five hits and three walks with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. Wood was a little better, but the results were the same in the win column. He hasn’t had a quality start in three outings, and he still has a goose egg in the win column through eight appearances. He’ll look for better results next Tuesday in Miami opposite Wei-Yin Chen to start a two-outing scoring period.
Padres’ Lyles strikes out six Cardinals in loss
Wei-Yin Chen was tagged for seven hits and nine runs in three innings of work Wednesday in the Marlins’ loss to the Cubs. Chen fanned one and walked two over 68 pitches. The Cubs did most of their damage off Chen in the third inning, torching him for six hits (five for extra bases), two walks and eight earned runs. Chen served up home runs to Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell before finally getting the hook from manager Don Mattingly.
It was an abysmal outing for the left-hander, who now carries a laughable 10.22 ERA over three starts this season. He’ll look to rebound from Wednesday’s disaster when he takes the hill next Tuesday against the Dodgers.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 4-1 in their last five road games against Miami and are 5-2 in their last seven games versus the Marlins overall.
Miami
The under is 7-1 in the last eight meetings between these two teams in Miami but the over is 44-20-6 in the last 70 meetings overall.
Prediction:
The Dodgers are really struggling with the bats and despite an advantageous pitching matchup, I still see L.A. struggling offensively. The under is 4-1-1 in the Dodgers’ last six road games, is 4-0 in their last four games following an off day and is 10-3-1 in their last 14 games versus a left-handed starter. The under is also 5-1 in the Marlins’ last six games versus National League West opponents and is 8-3 in their last 11 games coming off a loss.
