Houston drops opener
The Astros fell in Monday’s opener, 2-1. Despite the loss, Houston has held seven straight opponents to 2 runs or less. The Astros are now 26-17 overall and 14-7 on the road. Houston is putting up 4.72 runs per game this season while allowing 2.63 per contest.
Gerrit Cole gets the start for the Astros tonight. He is 4-1 through eight starts this year with a 1.43 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP. Cole has pitched a total of 56.2 innings and has 86 strikeouts with 12 walks. He has recorded at least eight strikeouts in all but one start this year.
Angels succeeding against Houston
With Monday’s victory, the Angels have won three of four meetings with the Astros this season. They have won four of their last six to move to 25-16 on the season and 11-12 at home. Los Angeles is putting up 4.98 runs per game this year while allowing 4.12 per contest.
Jaime Barria gets the start for the Angels tonight. He is 3-1 through four starts with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Barria has pitched 18.1 innings this season and has 13 strikeouts with seven walks.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros have won seven of Cole’s eight starts this year and all four of his road starts. They also have won 10 of their last 13 road games.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 6-2 in their last eight home games and 16-5 in their last 21 games against AL West opponents.
Prediction:
The Astros suffered a loss despite being great on the mound again. I can see them limiting the Angels to two runs or less again tonight with Cole pitching. Cole’s lone loss was to the Angels, but due to a lack of run support. I don’t see Barria being able to match him and lead Los Angeles to a win.
The Pick: Houston Astros -160
