Braves’ Teheran strikes out seven in six scoreless in last start
Sean Manaea allowed four earned runs, seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against the Astros on Tuesday. Manaea threw just 55 of his 82 pitches for strikes and he also hit a batter. Since flipping the calendar from April to May he has struggled, going 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA.
His location has actually been a little too good, as he has allowed 13 hits in the two April outings and he hasn’t allowed a walk in the 11 2/3 innings. Unfortunately, his hits allowed are up and his strikeouts are down. He’ll try to rebound next Monday in Boston to kick off a two-start week. It looks like a tough matchup, but remember, he no-hit the Red Sox on April 21 the last time he faced them.
Red Sox’ Porcello allows five runs in loss to Yankees
Rick Porcello coughed up five runs in 5 1/3 innings but did not factor into the decision against the Yankees on Wednesday. He surrendered eight base hits and three walks while striking out three in the sub-par effort.
It was a rare clunker for Porcello, whose 2.79 ERA remains stellar despite getting knocked around in this one. Games like this will happen against the Yankees’ loaded lineup. He should have an easier time against the Athletics on Monday in the first of a two-start week.
