Astros’ McCullers runs record to 5-1 with win over A’s
Lance McCullers allowed two earned runs, five hits and four walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a win Tuesday at Oakland.
McCullers labored at times, throwing just 52 of his 89 pitches for strikes before manager A.J. Hinch turned it over to the bullpen for four scoreless frames. His streak of four straight outings with a quality start came to an end, but he has won each of his past four decisions while he hasn’t lost in six outings dating back to April 6. He’ll look to keep it rolling Monday on the road against the Angels to kick off a two-start week.
Angels’ Heaney comes up short on the road vs. Rockies
Andrew Heaney allowed two earned runs, five hits and three walks with five strikeouts over six innings in a loss Tuesday in Colorado. Heaney threw 54 of his 86 pitches for strikes in the quality start but Jon Gray was just a little bit better. He also hit Colorado’s Noel Cuevas with a pitch. While the southpaw came up short in this one, he has back-to-back quality starts while posting a 1-1 record and 2.25 ERA in two May outings. He’ll look to carry over the momentum in his next scheduled start either Sunday against Minnesota or Monday against Houston
