Springer, Astros hammer Rangers
Houston completed a four-game home sweep over Texas Sunday afternoon with a decisive 15-5 victory to improve to 26-15 overall and 16-4 at home. The Astros scored one in the first inning, three in the second, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and five in the sixth to lead 15-2 at that juncture. George Springer was a perfect 5-for-5 with two home runs, five runs scored and four RBIs. Alex Bregman was 3-for-5 with two home runs, two runs and five RBIs. Carlos Correa went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and an RBI. Yuli Gurriel finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Aledmys Diaz ended the contest 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Tony Kemp was 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Corbin Martin earned the win in his MLB debut as he gave up two earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and one walk over 5 1/3 innings. Brad Peacock will start tonight as he enters with a 3-2 record, 4.30 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 38 strikeouts over 37 2/3 innings.
Tigers salvage split
Detroit won two of four at Minnesota including a 5-3 decision in Sunday afternoon’s series finale. The Tigers (18-20, 9-12 away) led 5-0 until the Twins score three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the visitors managed to hold on from there. Nick Castellanos paced the offense as he was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Miguel Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Brandon Dixon was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Daniel Norris picked up the win on the mound as he allowed two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk over 6 1/3 innings. Matthew Boyd will take the mound tonight as he comes in with a 4-2 record, 2.86 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 63 strikeouts over 50 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 8-3 in their last 11 Monday games. Houston is 65-32 in its last 97 road games.
Detroit
The Tigers are 13-38 in their last 51 games versus the AL West. Detroit is 14-3 in the last 17 Boyd home starts.
Prediction:
Boyd has been phenomenal for the Tigers this season, coming in with a low WHIP and a high strikeout rate. Peacock is also coming off his best start of the season and has the ability to be dominant in any start. But with Houston slow out of the gates on the road this season and having to travel all the way up north, this is a prime chance for the Tigers to end their winning streak. Peacock can be vulnerable against lefties and Detroit has a few that could hurt him. Taking the home dogs in this one.
