Nationals’ Hellickson sharp again on road in last start
Jeremy Hellickson allowed two hits with no walks over 6 2/3 scoreless innings in a victory in San Diego on Tuesday. Hellickson also struck out eight batters in the 91-pitch quality start and he carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before running out of gas. The Padres are having difficulty putting a bat on the ball lately, as this was the same team who had been no-hit over the weekend in Mexico by the Dodgers. Hell Boy will take the mound for his second start of the week in Arizona on Sunday night.
Diamondbacks’ Godley shaky in last start
Zack Godley allowed four earned runs, six hits and four walks with four strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision on the road against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Godley threw just 58 of his 103 pitches for strikes and he also uncorked a wild pitch. He failed to last at least six innings for the fourth time in the past five outings. His ERA is at a season-worst 3.83 and Tuesday marked his first time without a win in back-to-back starts this season. He’ll look to get untracked Sunday against Jeremy Hellickson and the Nationals.
MLB Betting Trends
Washington
The Nationals are 4-0 in their last four games against the Diamondbacks and are 17-5 in their last 22 games at Chase Field.
Arizona
The under is 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two teams in Arizona and is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall. That said, the over is 4-0 in Godley’s last four starts versus the Nationals.
Prediction:
Generally speaking, it’s difficult to sweep a team in a four-game series, especially when the team on the verge of being swept is the home squad (not to mention a good home squad like Arizona). The Diamondbacks are 5-2 in Godley’s last seven starts, are 11-3 in his last 14 outings versus a team with a winning record, and are 6-2 in his last eight starts versus National League East opponents. I think the Diamondbacks are a good investment tonight.
The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -130
