Mariners can’t string wins together
The Mariners continue to alternate wins and losses. They have yet to win consecutive games or lose consecutive games over their last 10 following Saturday’s doubleheader split. Seattle is now 22-16 overall and 14-8 on the road. The Mariners are putting up 4.64 runs per game while allowing 4.61 per contest.
James Paxton is getting the start for the Mariners today. He is coming off a no-hitter against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Paxton is now 2-1 through eight starts with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Paxton has pitched 47.2 innings and has 67 strikeouts with 19 walks.
Tigers inconsistent as well
The Tigers have won just two of their last six games after splitting the two games on Saturday. Detroit is now 16-22 overall and 9-9 at home. The Tigers are putting up 4.42 runs per game while allowing 4.64 per contest.
Blaine Hardy moves in from the bullpen to get his first start of 2018 for the Tigers today. Hardy has appeared in three games and pitched a total of 3.1 innings. He has allowed one run on a solo home run with two walks and three strikeouts. He has a 2.70 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners have won Paxton’s last four road starts and five of his last six starts overall. They also have won eight of his last 10 starts against AL Central opponents.
Detroit
The Tigers have lost 22 of their last 29 games against AL West opponents and seven of their last eight Sunday games. They also have lost 22 of their last 27 home games against a winning team.
Prediction:
Though the Mariners are coming off a win and the trends say they will lose today, I think Seattle finds a way to get the job done. Paxton has been very strong on the mound and the Tigers are turning to a reliever who hasn’t pitched more than two innings in any appearance. I like Seattle to beat him up, or at least beat up the bullpen when Hardy gets the early hook.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners -200
