Padres edge Rockies in middle game
San Diego scored in the top of the ninth inning Saturday to earn a 4-3 victory at Colorado and improve to 22-18 overall and 12-7 on the road. Wil Myers scored the go-ahead run in the ninth on a fielder’s choice grounder hit by Greg Garcia. Garcia went 1-for-4 with a walk and the RBI in the win. Myers finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Hunter Renfroe was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double. Austin Hedges finished 2-for-3 plus a walk. Craig Stammen picked up the win in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with one strikeout over one inning of work. Kirby Yates struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning to earn his 16th save. Nick Margevicius will start today for the Padres as he enters with a 2-3 record, 3.47 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with 26 strikeouts over 36 1/3 innings.
Blackmon homers in loss
Colorado fell 4-3 at home Saturday against San Diego to drop to 18-21 on the season and 8-11 at home. Wade Davis suffered the loss in relief as he gave up one earned run on one hit with two walks in an inning of work. Charlie Blackmon went 1-for-4 with a solo home run to help pace the Rockies offense. Tony Wolters finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nolan Arenado was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Antonio Senzatela will draw the start today for Colorado as he comes in sporting a 2-2 record, 5.67 ERA and 1.52 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 27 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 1-5 in their last six games following a win. San Diego is 6-2 in its last eight games versus a right-handed starter.
Colorado
The Rockies are 7-15 in their last 22 games following a loss. Colorado is 5-1 in the last six meetings.
Prediction:
While this is a tough one to decide, I don’t like Margevicius getting his first taste of Coors Field. The Rockies can eat up lefties at home and have seen their fair share of them lately. I expect the Padres to score some too, but look for the home team to have the better day at the plate on their way to winning the series.
