Kevin Gausman earned the win as he gave up one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Jonny Venters retired the only batter he faced for his first save of the season. Brian McCann was 2-for-4 with a solo home run to help lead the offense. Freddie Freeman went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run. Nick Markakis finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Johan Camargo added a pinch-hit home run in the top of the ninth for an insurance run. Max Fried will start today for the Braves as he comes in with a 4-2 record, 2.97 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
D-Backs fall short at home
Arizona lost by a count of 6-4 at home Sunday against Atlanta to drop to 22-18 on the season and 8-9 at home. Wilmer Flores helped pace the D-Backs offense as he finished 3-for-4 with a run. Blake Swihart ended the night 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a walk. Adam Jones added a pinch-hit solo home run. Merrill Kelly suffered the loss as he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks over seven innings of work. Zack Godley will start today for Arizona as he enters with a 1-2 record, 7.49 ERA and 1.72 WHIP plus 29 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings.
