Tigers shutout in opener
Detroit got shutout for the second straight night, suffering a 6-0 loss to the Twins on Friday. Detroit is now 16-19 on the season, 7-11 on the road and 20-15 with the under. The Tigers have Spencer Turnbull on the mound today. He is 2-2 on the season with a 2.31 ERA.
The Tigers continued to struggle at the plate on Friday, amassing just three hits. The lone extra-base hit game from Christin Stewart, who doubled. Starter Tyson Ross wasn’t very good on the mound either. He gave up six runs over five innings with four walks to fall to 1-5 on the season. The Detroit bullpen did pitch three scoreless innings.
Twins staying hot
Minnesota has won four straight following the 6-0 win on Friday. They have outscored their opponents 26-1 over the four games. The Twins are now 24-12 on the season, 12-5 at home and 19-17 with the over. Minnesota has Michael Pineda taking the mound today. He is 2-3 on the season with a 6.09 ERA.
Jake Odorizzi pitched a gem on Friday, going seven innings while allowing just one hit with no walks and five strikeouts. He is now 5-2 on the season after the win. Max Kepler and Mitch Garver both hit their eighth home runs of the season during the win. Jorge Polanco also drove in three runs in the win.
MLB Betting Trends
Detroit
The Tigers are just 20-46 in their last 66 road games and 21-51 in their last 72 road games against a right-handed starter.
Minnesota
The Twins have won six straight Saturday games and 20 of their last 27 in the division.
Prediction:
Pineda has given up at least three runs in his last five outings, but this Tigers team really has been a disaster at the plate. They haven’t scored in over two games now and are barely threatening to score in games. Turnbull has been a real pleasant surprise on the mound for Detroit, but you just can’t count on him getting run support. I think this could be a closer game because of Turnbull, but I still like the Twins to win.
MLB Prediction: Minnesota Twins -155
