White Sox drop by one
The Chicago White Sox dropped the series opener on Friday, 4-3, in Toronto. They are just 2-6 in their last eight games. Chicago is 16-21 on the season, 8-11 on the road and 20-16 with the over. Ivan Nova will be the starter today. He is just 1-3 on the year with a 7.04 ERA.
Chicago was chasing Toronto pretty much all night as they fell behind 3-1 after the first inning. Dylan Covey didn’t give Chicago the start it needed. He allowed four runs over 4.2 innings and walked five. He falls to 0-2 on the season with the loss. The Sox got 4.1 scoreless innings from their bullpen. Tim Anderson homered for the White Sox while Jose Abreu hit his 11th double of the season.
Blue Jays bounces back
After scoring just one run in three games against Minnesota, Toronto bounced back Friday night with the 4-3 win over Chicago. The Jays are still just 2-8 in their last 10. Toronto is now 16-22 on the season, 8-11 at home and 23-15 with the under. Marcus Stroman will get the start today. He is 1-5 on the season with a 2.96 ERA.
Toronto used seven different pitchers in Friday’s win. Ken Giles shut the door in the ninth with a perfect inning to get his ninth save of the season. Randal Grichuk had a three-run home run in the first while Teoscar Hernandez had a solo home run for Toronto. Justin Smoak actually drew four walks in a surprising performance.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The White Sox are just 1-4 in Nova’s last five road starts and 7-20 in their last 27 Saturday games.
Toronto
The Blue Jays have lost six straight against a starter with a WHIP over 1.30, and they are 2-8 in Stroman’s last 10 starts.
Prediction:
Neither pitcher is going to inspire much confidence. Stroman has a low ERA, but has given up 11 runs over his last 8.0 innings. Nova is actually coming off a 1-run, 7-inning outing in his last start, but he had given up 20 runs over his previous 16.0 innings before that. Both lineups can go through their struggles as well, but Chicago still has a little more pop in their bat. Nova may be able to build off that last start against another shaky lineup in Toronto, while Stroman seems to be making a wrong turn. I am going to take my chances on the Sox as the road underdog.
MLB Prediction: Chicago White Sox +145
