Cardinals’ Weaver allows four runs in four innings vs. Cubs
Luke Weaver let in four runs in four innings but escaped without a loss against the Cubs on Saturday. He was done in by one bad inning — a flurry of singles in the second frame produced all of the runs he allowed in the contest. He gave up six hits — all singles — and one walk while striking out two batters. The 24-year-old’s record holds at 2-2 with a 5.60 ERA. He has 32 strikeouts and 15 walks in 35 1/3 innings.
Padres’ Lauer tosses six scoreless innings in win over Dodgers
Eric Lauer tossed six scoreless innings, and the Padres shut out the Dodgers 3-0 on Sunday. Lauer scattered seven hits and a walk while striking out five in the effort, and the bullpen closed it out to get him his first MLB win. The 22-year-old has gotten progressively better in each of his three starts, with Sunday obviously ranking as the best yet, but early woes still have his ERA at 5.79 with an ugly 1.93 WHIP. There will certainly be ups and downs for Lauer in his first taste of major league action, and the NL Central-leading Cardinals are up next for the lefty on Friday.
MLB Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Cardinals have won five of their last six games in San Diego and are now 10-3 in their last 13 games versus the Padres overall.
San Diego
The Padres are 3-12 in their last 15 home games versus a right-handed starter and are 1-6 in their last seven games versus National League Central opponents.
Prediction:
Neither of these teams are hitting at the moment so if both starters have good nights the under should cash easily. The under is 4-1-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams and is 10-4-1 in the Padres’ last 15 games when facing a team with a winning record. On the other side, the under is 6-12 in the Cardinals’ last nine games overall and is 4-1 in their last five games versus National League West opponents.
The Pick: Cardinals/Padres under 8
