Mariners flip-flopping
Seattle has struggled with consistency over the last week, as they have alternated wins and losses over their last nine games. They are coming off a 9-3 win at Toronto on Thursday. Seattle is now 21-15 overall and 13-7 on the road. The Mariners are putting up 4.64 runs per game while allowing 4.61 per contest.
Marco Gonzales takes the mound for the Mariners on Friday. He is 3-2 through seven starts with a 5.19 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. Gonzales has pitched 34.2 innings this season and has 38 strikeouts with six walks.
Tigers struggling again
The Tigers are coming off a 5-4 loss at Texas. They have now dropped five of their last seven games. Detroit is now 15-21 overall and 8-8 at home. The Tigers are putting up 4.42 runs per game while allowing 4.64 per contest.
Matthew Boyd is on the mound for the Tigers today. He is 1-3 through six starts this season. Boyd has a 3.00 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP. He has 26 strikeouts and nine walks through 36 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners have won six of their last eight series openers and five of their last six against AL Central opponents. They also have won five of their last seven road games against a left-handed starter.
Detroit
The Tigers have actually won seven of their last 10 home games, but just 4-10 in Boyd’s last 14 home starts. They are also just 6-21 in their last 27 against the AL West.
Prediction:
While Boyd has good numbers this season, it hasn’t led to wins because he hasn’t gotten run support or he has had his bullpen let him down. Despite the back-and-forth of Seattle, the Mariners are still the better team here and I think they will beat the Tigers more than they won’t. Even with a shaky starter, I will take the Mariners tonight.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners -145
