Indians looking for consistency
Cleveland has been streaky as of late, going just 5-5 over their last 10. The Indians are coming off back-to-back wins over the White Sox at home, but that was to salvage a series split. The Indians are now 20-16 on the season, 9-9 on the road and 20-15 with the under. Cleveland has Cody Anderson on the mound today. He is 0-1 with a 11.12 ERA.
The Indians have struggled with their hitting this season. They rank just 28th in runs, averaging 3.58 per game. They also are 28th in batting average at .219. Cleveland does have some strong pitching, as they have a team ERA of just 3.72 and a team WHIP of 1.21. Carlos Santana is leading the team with a .293 average, five doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI. Jake Bauers has three home runs with 12 RBI.
Athletics win a series
Oakland is just 3-7 in its last 10 games, but the Athletics are coming off a series win at home over the Cincinnati Reds. The A’s are now 17-22 on the season, 12-9 at home and 21-18 with the over. Oakland has Frankie Montas on the mound. He is 4-2 on the season with a 2.75 ERA.
The Athletics aren’t a tremendous team at the plate either, averaging just 4.51 runs per game while hitting .239 as a team. On the mound, Oakland has a 4.38 team ERA and a 1.29 team WHIP. Khris Davis has 10 home runs with 26 RBI this season, but he is questionable to play tonight due to a hip injury. Matt Chapman has added 10 doubles, nine home runs and 22 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Indians are just 2-8 in Anderson’s last 10 starts, but they have won eight of their last 11 series openers.
Oakland
The Athletics have won four straight against a winning team and they are 40-12 in their last 52 against the AL Central.
Prediction:
Cleveland has the better record and has been able to bounce back from losses, but the Indians are struggling at the plate and are out on the West Coast just a day after playing a home. I think that will lead to some sluggish play tonight. Montas has also been pretty stingy on the mound. He has given up just one earned run in four of his seven starts. Anderson has given up seven earned runs over just 5.2 innings of pitching. Cleveland has also lost all four appearances he’s had this year.
MLB Prediction: Oakland Athletics -150
