Braves’ Foltynewicz allows six runs in loss to Giants
Mike Foltynewicz surrendered a season-high six runs over five innings of work Friday against the Giants. All six runs scored in the second inning, as he gave up five hits and walk in the frame. This was the first time this season that Foltynewicz had allowed even more than two earned runs in a start. He has a good chance of getting back on track with a matchup against the Marlins in Miami next week.
Marlins’ Smith strikes out seven in win over Reds
Caleb Smith was sharp in Saturday’s win over the Reds, tossing 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball while allowing just three hits. Smith struck out seven in what was a nice performance by the 26-year-old southpaw. He walked just one on the evening and finished his outing up having thrown 98 pitches (62 strikes). He’s now fanned at least seven in five of seven starts this year and will carry a 3.67 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 48/17 K/BB ratio (34 1/3 innings) into a home dance with the Braves next time he takes the ball.
