Reds outlasted in 13 innings
Cincinnati lost by a count of 5-4 in 13 innings Wednesday night at Oakland as the hosts hit a walk-off home run to end it. The Reds scored all four of their runs in the second inning to grab a 4-2 advantage, but were then shut out the rest of the way en route to the loss. Jose Peraza helped lead the way as he finished 2-for-4 with two walks, a run and an RBI. Nick Senzel ended the night 2-for-6 with an RBI. Kyle Farmer went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Robert Stephenson took the loss as he allowed a solo home run to the only batter he faced in the 13th inning. Tanner Roark will start tonight for Cincinnati as he comes in with a 2-1 record, 3.82 ERA and 1.53 WHIP with 34 strikeouts over 35 1/3 innings of work.
Piscotty hits walk-off homer
Oakland picked up a 5-4 victory Wednesday night at home versus Cincinnati as Stephen Piscotty hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 13th inning. Piscotty ended the night 2-for-6 with the home run and two RBIs. Jurickson Profar ended the night 1-for-6 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Ramon Laureano went 3-for-4 with a walk. Liam Hendriks picked up the win as he threw one perfect inning of relief with a strikeout. Chris Bassitt will start today for the Athletics as he enters with a 1-0 record, 2.12 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with 22 strikeouts over 17 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Cincinnati
The Reds are 4-1 in the last five Roark starts. Cincinnati is 14-39 in the last 53 road games.
Oakland
The Athletics are 3-8 in their last 11 games. Oakland is 5-2 in the last seven Bassitt starts.
Prediction:
The Athletics have righted the ship with a no-hitter and a walk-off home run in their last two games, while Cincinnati cannot seem to break out of its rough stretch. But I like betting against teams coming off an emotional win, so while that didn’t pay off last night I’m going right back to the well here and placing my money on the Reds. Roark has a good track record, while Bassitt should start coming back down to earth after a fantastic first two starts of the season. Look for the Reds to salvage a game today.
