Mariners’ LeBlanc throws four shutout innings vs. A’s
Wade LeBlanc did not allow a run over four innings of work in Thursday’s win over the A’s. LeBlanc had posted a 4.61 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 13 2/3 innings of relief work prior to Thursday’s start, but with Erasmo Ramirez (lat) hitting the disabled list, the M’s are trying him out in the rotation. He pitched well in his 2018 starting debut, fanning three, walking one and scattering three hits over the course of four innings.
LeBlanc finished the evening having thrown 70 pitches (44 strikes). You can reasonably expect that he’ll be stretched out as he finds his starting legs. A road start against the Blue Jays shows next on his schedule. As for fantasy intrigue, look elsewhere. In 181 career games, the veteran southpaw owns a 4.41 ERA.
Blue Jays’ Garcia lit up by Indians in last start
Jaime Garcia was lit up for seven hits and six runs in just 3 1/3 innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Indians. He fanned four and walked one. On a day when the Jays desperately needed length from their starter, Garcia lasted just 67 pitches before getting the hook from manager John Gibbons.
Garcia blanked Cleveland over his first three innings but fell apart in the fourth, allowing seven runs on five hits including a three-run homer by Francisco Lindor. The left-hander has struggled to a 6.60 ERA in his first year with the Blue Jays and will take a three-start winless streak into his next outing Wednesday against the Mariners.
